The Promised Neverland Anime Review
If you are thinking about watching The Promised Neverland but aren’t sure you would enjoy it, look no further. Do you like mysteries? Do you like cute things with a dark and twisted underlying theme? Do you like adventures? Tactics and strategy? If yes then you will surely enjoy this anime. In this review I will do my best to let you know if The Promised Neverland is something you should add to your watch list.
The character development in the anime is stellar. The writers do an excellent job giving each and every character the perfect amount of time in the spotlight. The character’s stories are interesting and deeply rooted into the dark backstory that the anime portrays. Each character is presented with their own set of obstacles and the way all of their stories flow together in harmony are the icing on the cake. Each character has their own motive and reasoning behind what they choose to do and the completeness of the characters make way for a fantastic story line.
Firstly, before I review the story and pacing, I want to point out something important. The anime has AMAZING source material. That’s right, the manga for The Promised Neverland is absolutely amazing and gives an anime adaptation amazing potential. This, coupled with the fantastic directing of Mamoru Kanbe lead to a well written and fantastically paced story that leaves the audience wanting more after every single episode.
As for how the story and pacing goes. It’s amazing. The dark theme of the anime coupled with correct lighting and some of the best facial expressions of any anime I have ever seen lead to an anime that is astoundingly enticing, to say the least. The way things are revealed to the characters and how they have to respond to them to make the next step is beyond spectacular. The story remains tense pretty much the entire way through. There is never a point in time where all the cards are on the table. There is always something you don’t know. I remember watching it week to week when it was coming out and having that feeling of not being able to wait until the next episode. A feeling that I have not had about an anime in a very long time. The dark mystery and action genre are one of my favorites though, so how could I not love it (although I didn’t let it make my review biased).
The art style is stellar. I wont spend too much time reviewing is as I think you should see it for yourself. But it conforms to the manga (as it should) and goes absolutely perfect with the anime. The lighting, facial expressions, and colors are all perfectly suited to the anime. I have absolutely zero complaints here.
I hope this review has at least helped you to realize if The Promised Neverland is worth watching for you. I enjoyed it immensely and I hope you do too.

TLDR
Overall, the adaptation features an art style very similar to the manga and the characters are very well fleshed out even without long ridiculous backstories. This anime is absolutely an emotional roller coaster ride of cuteness and darkness and keeps the audience entranced every step of the way. If you have read the manga and are worried about the anime pulling a non-Brotherhood FMA then fear not, the adaptation does a great job of conforming to the manga. It is an absolutely breathtaking anime and has potential to take anime of the year.
Synopsis
Here is part of Wikipedia’s plot synopsis below:
Set in year 2045, Emma is an 11-year-old orphan living in Grace Field House, a small orphanage housing her and her 37 siblings. Life had never been better; with food that tasted gourmet, plush beds, snow-white uniforms, and the love of their “Mother” (the caretaker) Isabella, as well the litany of daily exams that Emma always aced with her two best friends Ray and Norman. The orphans are basically allowed to do whatever they want, except venture out of the compounds or the gate that connects the house to the outside world.
