Monster Hunter: World [Game Review]

Monster Hunter: World is a role-playing game released by Capcom on January 26, 2018 for Xbox One and PS4. It was later released on Microsoft Windows August 2018. The game features the ability to fight various monsters and upgrade your equipment with the loot acquired from these monsters. The game has 14 different weapon classes with varying elemental types and move sets for each of these weapons. There are currently 34 large monsters (boss monsters) in the game likely with more on the way. There are two different ranks in the game: High Rank and Low Rank. Low rank is what all new characters start out at and feature monsters of less difficulty that High rank. Once High Rank is unlocked players can expect to fight more challenging variants of monsters they have already fought as well as new monsters of varying difficulty.  MHW Review Score: 9.1

The Good

  • Monster Hunter: World is a fantastic game with killer gameplay and is an overall fantastic experience. The game features top-notch quality content that will keep even veteran gamers interested for 40+ hours. It is beautiful with fantastic aesthetics and an environment that is both fun and interactive. The progression of the story is well done and leaves players with a sense of purpose and accomplishment at every step. The multiplayer aspect of the game hits the nail on the head and solo fights are completely doable with scaling difficulty based on multiplayer. The fights themselves require strategy and increase with difficulty as you progress through the game.

The Bad

  • One thing about Monster Hunter World that seems to be a reoccurring topic of discussion has been the updates. Most of the updates so far have seemed to simply be reiterations of content that has already been released such as recoloring and new move sets for monsters that are already in the game. Time will tell soon enough though as the new expansion pack is well underway.
